Biography of Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela was a South African politician and activist who fought against apartheid. From 1994 to 1999, he was President of South Africa. In 1918, he was born in the village of Mvezo in Umtata, which was then part of the Cape Province in South Africa. Gadla Henry Mphakanyiswa, his father, was a local chief and a member of the king’s council. Mandela went to the University College of Fort Hare and the University of Witwatersrand, where he studied law.
